A breath of fresh air

I had a "terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day" yesterday. First off, I am coming down with a cold/seasonal allergies (stuffy nose, congested chest, cough, etc). Then, my foot is still throbbing with tendonitis pain from the race this past Saturday. Last, I had a very overwhelming day at school. I talked to my wonderful mommy this morning and as always, she gave me wonderful advice. I went to school early, turned on some hillsong "None but Jesus", pulled out my wonderful Devotional "Jesus Calling" and read. This was today's devotion:

"I am with you and all around you, encircling you in golden rays of Light. I always behold you Face to face. Not one of your thoughts escapes My notice. Because I am infinite, I am able to love you as if you and I were the only ones in the universe. Walk with Me in intimate Love-steps, but do not lose sight of My Majesty. I desire to be your closest Friend, yet I am also your sovereign Lord. I created your brain with capacity to know Me as Friend and Lord simultaneously. The human mind is the pinnacle of My creation, but so few use it for its primary purpose-knowing Me. I communicate continually through My Spirit, My Word, and My creation. Only humans are capable of receiving Me and responding to My Presence. You are indeed fearfully and wonderfully made!"

As I was very emotional the day before, I just sat there in my desk chair and cried this morning because this is exactly what I needed to hear. I then went around to each child's chair and prayed for them individually. I prayed at the door that the Lord would bless this day. Let's just say, we had a much better day and despite my foot and feeling under the weather, I believe the Lord worked in many ways today. It wasn't perfect, but when is a first grade classroom perfect.

Tomorrow is FRIDAY! Have a blessed weekend!

Lots to love

Happy Wednesday, Ya'll! It's been awhile since I've participated in What I'm Loving Wednesday but I have a lot to love, so here it is! I'm linking up with Jamie today so go link up and check out her awesome blog!
I'm LOVING this beautiful fall weather we are having! Cool mornings and evenings but nice during the day! I LOVE FALL!

I'm LOVING that I get to dress up fancy and go to this fun fancy event called the Eye Ball on Saturday with my teacher friend Amy and 2 of our other team members in 1st grade. Amy's husband is an Eye doctor and this event raises money for people who need eye care.

I'm LOVING the feeling of great accomplishment in my race outcome this past Saturday!!

I'm LOVING that my mom and cousin and her two sweet girls are coming for a visit here in the next couple weeks!

And as always I'm LOVING my sweet and encouraging hubby!

Happy Wednesday, Ya'll!

4th times a charm, right?

Hey Ya'll! I'm finally able to post my recap from the Women's Half Marathon this past weekend! Let me tell you, I am SO PUMPED about sharing this news! This was my 4th half marathon. Here are my other recaps:
Country Music 1/2 2010
Women's Half 2010
Country Music 1/2 2011

First off, this has been a whirl wind of an experience. My training was so not how it should be at first. My friend who runs with me developed a stress fracture so no race for her. My other friend who hadn't ran a half and thought she would just train with us ended up doing the half with me! It all changed after the longest run (11 miles) with my brother. Something just clicked and I ran with it (literally :). Here's a little snap shot of how it changed: 8/6/11-8/29/11 my pace was between 14-17:30 minute miles. For my 11 mile over labor day weekend I averaged a 14:57 pace. Now let's see how training went: out of 6 runs, my slowest pace was 13:26 mile, fastest was 13:00 min mile. I am still a little shocked that I can do that! My secret: 1 minute walking, 1 minute running. It just works for me!

Last year I completed the women's half in 3 hours and 17 minutes. This year I completed it in 2 hours and 50 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 27 minutes, Ya'll! I can still hardly believe it! The night before, Derek and I stayed at Steve and Emily's. We had our yummy carbs and headed to bed early. Our alarms set for 5 and out of the house by 5:30, we were down town right before 6. We parked about a half mile from the starting line so we could warm up. We got to the starting line, used the bathrooms, stretched and waited.

Way far back in Corall 5
This course is HARD! A huge hill in the middle of mile 1 and rolling hills all throughout the course. Atleast one hill per mile. Mile 12 Korean Vets Bridge "I Will Hill" is the toughest part. I am proud to say that Emily and I ran a little bit of each hill. She was the biggest cheerleader for me and I definitely needed it. She kept encouraging me and telling me to look down at my hand "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength." or we aren't trying to get under 3 hours, we WILL get under 3 hours. Through several frustrating parts (her foot going numb, the top of my left foot throbbing with pain, her needing to pee, me needing to....ya know, a calf cramp and all) We kept pushing through, kept saying all we need to do is finish this! Friend Heather, boot and all, saw up around mile 4.5, another spot and at the finish line! It was so great to see her cheering us on and supporting us because she knows that you need that encouragement! Our hubbies were real close to the finish line and got some great pics! I cried when we finished the race because the actual starting clock still was under 3 hours ( due to staggered start, we actually didn't reach the starting line until the clock said 7 minutes past.) I couldn't believe that I actually reached my goal!
There we are! Coming upon the finish!
 YAY!
The clock still says 2 in the hour space :)
 We did it!
 Medal and Bib
 Medal up close
last years and this years medals in comparison.

All in all, I am so pleased because this course was hard and I finally have a PR under 3 hours! After the race, we headed back to Emily and Steve's for cleaning up, resting, eating eggs and french toast, and watching football. I had a wonderful 90 minute massage thanks to my sweet first graders Christmas gift last year. It was a blissful experience and so relaxing. I needed it desperately. I am still so giddy and excited about the race results! I just hope my foot (probably tendonitis) heals quickly!

Hope ya'll are having a great week so far!

Half Marathon #4

Hey Ya'll!

Sorry it's been awhile. Life has definitely got a hold on me and I feel like I've been in a whirl wind of busyness. Saturday will mark my 4th half marathon!
I'm very sad to say that my partner in crime/runner friend/bff/etc won't be able to run with me because of a stress fracture. :(
But I'm very excited that I get to experience the race with my long time childhood and now we live in the same city again bestie, Emily;s, first half marathon. We went to the expo this evening and the swag was pretty good. I love the shirts this year! They seem A LOT better than last years. I just love lots of things about this race minus the course, but we will overcome! One of my favorite things about this race is the bib:
Here's a pic of all the swag I got tonight:
A full race report will be coming SOON! Have a wonderful weekend, Ya'll! And good luck to any of ya running in any races this weekend!

It's OK

Its Ok Thursdays

I'm linking up for the first time with  Brunch with Amber and A Complete Waste of Makeup to bring you

It's Ok Thursday!!!

Here it goes:
It's OK:

*That I cut a mile short from my run tonight because it was getting dark and our complex workout room's treadmills STINK!
*That blogging has taken a back seat because school is CRAZY!
*That I have so many posts I want to write but don't have time to.
*If I want to go to bed before 9 pm some nights.
*If I have 255 posts to read in my google reader and sometimes click "Mark all as read"
*IT'S OK BECAUSE TOMORROW IS FRIDAY!!!

That was so fun and I'll have to link up again. I'm running 8 miles of the Women's half race course on Saturday with my friend, Emily, who is running it with me. Only one more week until I complete half marathon #4. It is so hard to believe. I also had my first formal observation under the new Tennessee teacher eval. system. I think and hope that it went well. 1 down 5 more to go....ugh! Have a great Friday, Ya'll!

My best run yet!

Hey Ya'll! Happy Monday to ya! I hope it's a great one and it starts your week off wonderfully!
I just had to share this morning about how I accomplished a big goal this weekend. I had the best run of my life. I don't want to toot my own horn but I was so proud of myself afterwards! My ultimate goal is to make it under or at 3 hours for my next half marathon. I'm running the Women's Half in Nashville on Sept. 24th. My pace has to be 13:44 for each mile to make it a 3 hour half marathon. I'm a run/walker so I needed to figure out my ratio to be successful! I was definintley successful because I ran 9 miles (by myself again :) in 2 hours and 58 seconds! I needed to run it in 2 hours and 3 minutes to be at a 3 hour pace. I started off with a 6 minute brisk walk and then went into 1 minute running 1 minute walking ratios. My wonderful best friend, Heather, let me borrow her garmin watch since she is off from running with a stress fracture. :( My slowest mile was 13:56! Hopefully I can upload my chart on here later today when I know what I'm doing and set up an account on the website! Sorry about no pictures today and I hope to be a better blogger this week!

Also, check out the book tab at the top of my page to see some more books I've read this year! I just finished Karen Kingsbury's newest book Learning from the Bailey Flanigan Series. It was AWESOME!

Anyways, have a blessed day!

Summersville Lake, WV

My Daddy cooking in the dutch ovens :) We had pot roast with carrots and potatoes and an amazing apple cobbler!

My brother, Jacob, and his jet ski. We had so much fun taking turns riding on it!
 The beautiful Summersville Lake!
My parents silly dog, tanner. He was afraid of the shutter noise on my camera and hid under my parents bed.

Well Ya'll, I thought I'd start off with the pictures to get ya hooked! (Actually I thought I could just move the pictures down so I could write first, but let's be honest, I'm tired and wanted to write this post before I forgot to!) We had such a great time over labor day weekend. It was great getting to be with my parents and brothers. Derek and I left Friday after school and didn't get to my parents until late. We then stayed there and got up the next morning to drive to Summersville Lake (about 2 hours away from mom and dad's). We got there, relaxed, went on my brother's jet ski, layed on rafts in the lake, ate, made a camp fire, etc. Sunday morning, my brother Adam ran 11 miles with me for my half marathon training. I did it in 2:45. Wish I could've been a little faster but we had to go down and up this HUGE MASSIVE GINORMOUS hill that was about 1/2 mile long.  Sunday afternoon we relaxed with some friends, The Hunts, from my parents church (the church I grew up in) on their boat! We had a blast! Derek also water skiied for the first time and got up on the first try! He looked awesome! Monday came too soon and we had to say our goodbyes and head home.

Luckily tomorrow is already Wednesday!! Hoping I can jump back on to what I'm loving and pinteresting wednesdays tomorrow. If not, I know you'll still love me, right?

What did you do over Labor day weekend? Travel or stay home?

Have a wonderful, restful evening!
